IELTSInternational English Language Testing System
Are you planning to study or train abroad? Are you applying to an institution and need to prove your level of English? Do you need to raise your standard in English? Then we can help you with an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam.
WHERE IS IELTS RECOGNISED?
IELTS is accepted by most UK, Australian, Canadian and New Zealand academic institutions. In the United States it is increasingly gaining recognition as an alternative to TOEFL (Teaching of English as a Foreign Language).
WHAT TYPE OF IELTS SHOULD YOU TAKE?
You can take either the Academic or General Training Reading and Writing modules. Choose the Academic Reading and Writing module if you are planning to undertake academic study in a higher education institution.
If you are planning to undertake non-academic training or apply for immigration to Australia, Canada or New Zealand, we recommend you take the General Training Reading and Writing modules. You will be tested in listening, reading, writing and speaking whichever module you decide to take. If you are unsure of which module to take, you can discuss this with our exams officer.
How can I prepare for the test?
You will be given an orientation at our centre after registration usually one week before the test date where you will be able to know more about the test. Besides, materials that would help you get prepared for the test will be given to you.
HOW MUCH WILL IELTS COST?
Fees for the exam are Nakfa 1,750.00 for either the General Training or Academic modules.
WHEN AND WHERE WILL THE TEST BE?
Although test dates vary, we run a regular service so you can take your test throughout the year. Please contact us to find out when you can take your test. Tests are taken in our centre in Asmara.
WHEN AND HOW WILL YOU RECEIVE YOUR RESULTS?
The test is marked at our Asmara centre to help us make sure you receive your results within 13 days of taking the test. Results will be returned to you as a Test Report Form. There is no pass or fail mark. Scores are given on a band scale of one to nine (with one being a non-user and nine being an expert user of the English language).

Key English Test (KET)An elementary exam, at Cambridge ESOL level 1 (Council of Europe level A2) which can be achieved after approximately 180-200 hours of learning and is about halfway to PET. It the basic communication needed in everyday situations and is suitable for students aged thirteen and over.
Preliminary English Test (PET)
The Cambridge ESOL level 2 exam (Council of Europe level B1), tests language ability at lower-intermediate level (after approximately 375 hours of study) and is about two-thirds of the way to the very popular FCE.
First Certificate in English (FCE)
The Cambridge ESOL level 3 exam (Council of Europe level B2) , is at the upper-intermediate or 'independent user' level. FCE is the most widely taken exam and has the most widespread recognition. It is taken for employment and study purposes.
Certificate of Advanced English (CAE)
The Cambridge level 4 exam (Council of Europe level C1), offers a lower-advanced language qualification for those who need to use English in their jobs. It is mostly taken by university students and young professionals. Many universities recognise CAE as an English language entry requirement.
Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE)
A high grade in this exam-(Council of Europe level C2) certifies that the candidate has near native speaker ability. As such it fulfils the entry requirements in English language of UK universities and many universities in other English speaking countries and by other professional bodies worldwide.

School examsQualifications for entry into UK higher and further education Do you want to study at an institute for further or higher education? Do you want to study for professional qualifications in the UK? Then the General Certificate of Education GCE/ IGCSE could help you. You can register and take a Edexcel International Examinations or a Cambridge International Examinations qualification with us.
Ordinary level exams
These exams commonly known as O-levels, provide a foundation for further study or employment. They are available in a wide range of subjects covering the whole curriculum. O-level courses are usually taken over a period of two or three years. Most candidates take O-level examinations when they are 16 years old.
The advanced exams
A-levels, are used internationally as pre-university qualifications. They are available in a broad range of subjects covering the whole curriculum. Usually, A-level courses immediately follow on from O-level courses and last for two years. Most candidates enter between 2 and 4 subjects at the age of 18.
Advanced subsidiary level - AS levels
The AS level is offered in most subjects. The subsidiary is a new way of facilitating staged assessment. The subject contents of the new A-level syllabuses have been subdivided into two parts. The AS syllabus content, which is expected to be covered in the first half of the course, and the second part of the syllabus, commonly referred to as A2, taken in the end of the second year of study.

The exams are offered by two examining boards Cambridge International Examinations and Edexcel International Examinations. We do not offer GCE/IGCSE courses but you can download all syllabuses from the CIE website www.cie.org.uk and Edexcel International at www.edexcel.org.uk.
